Do you think that it is possible to grow a baby outside a womb?
For decades researchers are exploring the possibility to grow a baby inside the artificial womb. Researchers successfully tested and grew a lamb with the help of an Artificial womb and also tested with sharks.
Now the researchers are in the mid of creating a prototype for gestating premature babies. This may bring some ethical issues that need to be considered important.
Here is a story straight out of science fiction replacing human pregnancy with artificial wombs. I know the idea sounds dystopian but it may be fast approaching reality Dutch scientists are working on it.
Co-founder of cryptocurrency Ethereum he recently pitched synthetic wounds as a solution to the income disparities between men and women he said they could reduce the burden of pregnancy and help women earn equally at their workplaces Interestingly he made the suggestion to tesla CEO Elon musk. Mr. Vitalik Buterin the co-founder of Ethereum the second-best cryptocurrency after bitcoin the 27-year-old inventor has pitched a bold solution to end the economic disparities between men and women and also to prevent our planet from a population collapse he wants to replace Pregnant women with synthetic wounds.
In addition to that he shared a graph to justify his views it pointed out how women’s earnings drop significantly after a child but for men, they remain unchanged synthetic wounds according to him to remove the high burden of pregnancy and reduce income disparities this wild suggestion split the internet while some have welcomed it the others are calling it crazy. Those in favor say they would love to have more options and prioritize their health some others say that it would help them escape an environment where men condition women, furthermore yet those against synthetic wounds say women do not defy the laws of nature to be treated equally they say pregnancy connects them to the natural world like nothing else and that synthetic wounds would be the same as growing new species in a lab.
The debate continues but the question is can we really develop a synthetic womb? well, we already are, scientists in the Netherland say they are just 10 years away from developing an artificial womb that could significantly save the lives of premature babies. Premature birth is said to be the biggest cause of death among newborn babies. Dutch researchers say that an artificial uterus could significantly solve this problem the technology sounds promising but there are still ethical to overcome will the technology only be used in emergency situations or will it also be available for those mulling and abortion? will it be available for all individuals or only for those who can afford it and above everything else is letting machines replicate every human element of life a good idea?
What is a premature baby and how this synthetic womb can give a solution?
A premature baby is nothing but a Baby Embryo that isn’t completely grown and the woman gives birth to the baby before the delivery period.
A woman’s significant delivery period will be around 40 weeks. But in this case when a woman gives birth to a baby around 22 weeks so-called premature baby. In addition to that, the baby’s death rate can be more. Also, when it is around 23 weeks the baby may have inabilities when compared to babies who were born at the 40th week of the mom’s pregnancy period.
